A breath of fresh air - finally!
After a week of weaning Lucy off of her oxygen, on Tuesday the decision was made at the pediatrician to just take it off for good. Lucy is much happier without the tape on her face and we are so excited by this big step. The first night we both went and checked on her several times to be sure everything was fine. The next day our oxygen support nurse came back and Lucy was still doing great. We will keep the oxygen for a while at the house because if she gets a cold her lungs will not be able to work hard enough to keep her going without the boost the oxygen provides. While having the oxygen tubing throughout the house was not a big deal, it is still nice to have a fully portable baby. In other Lucy news, she is now refusing to take a bottle and will only nurse. This is quite a change for all of us as she needs to feed more frequently and through the night more often now. We currently have a scale from the NICU to help determine how much Lucy is taking in after a feed and we know that she is getting what she needs. She is just beginning to be a more efficient eater as well. Lucy is now ten pounds.
Ella is growing fast and is now at fourteen pounds. When she wakes up in the morning she is so happy and smiles when we come to get her. Ella loves to be loved and she is happiest when she gets to fall asleep in someone's arms. She is starting to figure out how to make baby noises. It takes some work for her to figure out how to get the sounds out but is then so pleased with herself. They both love to lay on their playmats and hit the toys.
Through The Waters
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you. Isaiah 43:2a The journey of Ella and Lucy.
