As you can tell from the length of time from one post to the next, life is busy! Having the girls home is fantastic. We can see them growing and changing before our eyes.
Ella is now eleven and a half pounds and doing much better with her eating. We have tried out a couple of new bottles and we seem to have found one that she prefers. Ella is starting to smile and she has a thousand amusing facial expressions. She loves to sleep and is starting to do more of it at night!
Lucy now eight and a half pounds- what a long way from a pound and a half! She is quite serious and takes in the world with her big eyes. Her eyes were brown for a long time but now they are turning blue, like her sister's eyes. She still loves to squirm and move. Johnathon took her to the Hand and Upper Arm Clinic in London on Tuesday and she got a clean bill of health on her arm. The surgeon was very happy with the way her arm has healed and her complete range of motion.
A picture of the girls before we went to our Developmental Follow-up Clinic visit in London yesterday. The girls will be followed for several years by the team at St. Joe's. At our appointment we met with the physiotherapist, the nutritionist, the follow-up nurse, and the doctor monitoring Lucy's oxygen. Everything is on track and the girls are where they should be developmentally for their corrected age of six weeks. They will be assessed regularly so when an issue comes up, early intervention can be offered. Lucy will still need her oxygen for a while, but as she is growing her lungs will continue to develop. It will likely be another month or two and then we can get rid of all the tubing through the house and the tape on her face.
Ella is enjoying her bouncy chair. It plays "Old McDonald" - a song she will hear a lot of her in life! Both the girls accidently hit the toys in front of them and it surprises them.
