There is a lot to update today...
This is Lucy off the ventilator and on the Aladdin cap! This was a very exciting moment, one we have been wishing for for three weeks. Lucy is feeling so much better. She is now up to full feeds - 37mL every three hours. She went from nothing last Wednesday to full feeds in less than a week. This means that she is off the IV nutrition and only on milk. Lucy is also done her course of antibiotics so no more IVs - for the first time in her life! She continues on her anti-fungal medication for another two weeks but they are giving it through her NG tube so she doesn't need to be poked. It is good that she doesn't need anymore IVs because she is now an expert at taking them out herself. She is still retaining some fluid but being off the ventilator, being on full feeds, and being able to move around more will help to reduce the fluid. Lucy has taken so many huge steps forward in the last week - we couldn't be more happy!
Ella continues to move straight ahead. As you can see in the picture she has moved out of her isolette into a cot! She is now big enough and able to regulate her own temperature. It is nice to able to see and touch her without opening up the isolette. Ella has been on low flow oxygen since Sunday and is going strong. Last night she weighed 4lbs15oz! She was at 42mL of milk every three hours but that will go up with her new weight. You can see in the picture that she is being fed - the syringe is full of milk and is slowly pushed through her NG tube. Ella looks more and more filled out everyday - so beautiful!
