Everything continues to be stable in the NICU. Lucy is slowly progressing. She is now done her course of antibiotics but continues on the anti-fungal medication as well as the blood thinner. She is still on the ventilator but everyday the respiratory therapists are turning down the parameters; hopefully she will be off the ventilator and on the aladdin cap soon. Lucy is also started to feed again - that is the best news of all! Last night she was up to 10mL every two hours and the plan is to increase by about 2mL every day. Her full feeds will be in the range of 16-18mL every two hours. It would be great if she was on full feeds by the end of the week and she could stop getting nutrition through her IV. She is starting to open her eyes more and suck on her soother. Lucy has had to fight really hard this last month to be well, we are really hoping that she has doesn't hit any more difficulties and has a real chance to recover.
Ella continues to grow! On Saturday night she was up to 3lbs 13ounces. She will likely be four pounds in a couple of days. A major part of the reason she is gaining so quickly is that the breastmilk has been fortified to really help her grow. The bigger she is, the better the chance to fight off infections. So the fortification helps that to happen quicker than if she was on plain milk. So while she is growing quickly, she is still just at 33weeks, 4days gestation, which means she has a ways to get yet developmentally. Ella is still on high-flow oxygen and taking all her feeds through her NG tube. Before she is able to come home she needs to feed independantly as well as breathe without minimal oxygen support. Ella is definitely on the right track, but it will still take some time before she is ready to come home.
Yesterday, we went home to Monkton for the first time in a very long time. It was wonderful to worship and celebrate 148 years of ministry at Knox. We were glad to see all of our friends and neighbours. A big thank you to the Young Children and Worship class for their beautiful pictures made especially for Ella and Lucy - they are great!

So glad to hear such great news about both girls. We look forward to seeing them in Monkton in a few months!!!
Sorry to have missed you yesterday but hopefully we can get a visit in with you in a few weeks as the boys have something for their new 'girlfriends'.
Our family has been praying for your girls. We love to check the website and hear of their progress. This sounds like it was an amazing week! Love Brian, Dianne, Peter, Emily and Meghan
