Through The Waters

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you. Isaiah 43:2a The journey of Ella and Lucy.

Lucy is doing much better now. The breathing tube was taken out on Thursday afternoon and she is much happier about that. She is back on the high flow oxygen. She is still on the antibiotics and the morphine. As the days go by they are decreasing her morphine and she should be off of it tomorrow. They are slowly increasing her feeds and she is up to 20mL every three hours now. The surgeons are happy with how her arm is healing but there is some concern with her wrist. It is "droopy" right now but everyone seems confident that this is not permanent. Lucy is very comfortable and I was able to hold her last night - a real treat!

Yesterday, it became clear that Ella was getting sick. This was a big shock because she has basically been well for the last six weeks. Today her blood cultures came back positive for infection. She is now on antibiotics and being given IV nutrition. They aren't sure what exactly is making her sick and they are being very cautious. She is not very thrilled about not having a full stomach. Like Lucy's arm, this was very unexpected. By tomorrow they should know what exactly is making her sick and be able to make a plan for getting her healthy again.
