Through The Waters

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you. Isaiah 43:2a The journey of Ella and Lucy.

Theresa, Johnathon, and Ella. We can't wait until Lucy is able to be held!
A picture of Johnathon changing a diaper!
Lucy had a couple of setbacks. Her oxygen and other ventilation measures had been coming down but yesterday in a short amount of time her needs greatly increased. The doctor now thinks her lung partially collapsed again. They have it sorted out now and her oxygen is coming down again. The nurses say that there is often a step backwards when you least expect it. She is now tolerating her feeds and I am so glad about that. She has lost the IV in her arm in the picture and only has a long line IV now - which is able to be used over and over again avoiding having to put in new IVs every couple of days. Tomorrow is her last day of morphine and I am looking forward to seeing her kick and open her eyes again. Being done the morphine will hopefully help all her systems speed up and get moving again. Lucy is looking less puffy everyday and more like herself.
Here is another picture to help understand how little the girls are. This is Ella (with her face completely obscured by her cap and her soother) holding onto my hand.

Here is a close-up of Ella's new ventilation system - the aladdin cap. It provides pressure and oxygen but she is taking all her breathes herself. The cap helps keep all the tubes in place. She has done very well on the cap and has not had to go back to a regular ventilator. This is a big step forward. She continues to feed well and is now up to 13mL of fortified breastmilk.
